A Water-wise Malbec from Neethlingshof

Over the pass couple of years Neethlingshof has put a lot of time, money and effort into biodiversity and good farming practices. The team at Neethlingshof is following an active biodiversity orientated strategy in its farming practices and still manage to produce some of our country’s finest wines.

Winemaker De Wet Viljoen has once again proofed that a good wine starts in the vineyard with the release of the 2010 Neethlingshof Malbec. 40% Less water was used when the grapes used in this wine was grown. Hydro-neutron probes was used to schedule irrigation which enabled them to only use as much water as is absolutely essential.

With 98% of South Africa’s water resources already fully allocated it’s no wonder that Neethlingshof is trying to make a differences when it comes to saving water. With the release of the 2010 Malbec the team at Neethlingshof wants to create awareness around how we can all help to save water by implementing small changes in our daily routines.

Ever heard of a Waterpebble? Well, neither have I until today.

All you need to do is place this little water saver in your shower. The light of the waterpebble will automatically start flashing once you’ve turned up the tap.  The waterpebble indicates who much water you use. For example:

  • Green: Start
  • Amber: you are half way through
  • Red: time to stop

It might sound simple, but if a big winery like Neethlingshof puts in the extra effort to save our planet with every bottle wine they produce then so can we. As they say: every drop counts

The 2010 Neethlingshof Malbec is one of those wines that we as South Africans can be proud of. It’s not only super tasty and layered with caramal flavours, it’s a wine to drink for a good cause. All the more reason to grab yourself a bottle or 2 and cheers to our lovely planet and the people on it that try their best to make it a better place for us all.

The 2010 Malbec is available from selected stockist nationally and retails for around R70 a bottle. A true bargain I tell you!
